Getting started

How to get started?

Olfactik offer a wide range of products for customers with different needs and interests. If you are new to perfumery the choices available can be daunting, so here are a few pointers to get you started:

  • We supply individual ingredients, bases and accords, written formulas and kits. We suggest you begin with one of our formula kitsOur kits contain everything you need. Great if you are just starting out.

  • Our fragrance bases and accords are ready made fragrances that can be combined or easily personalised. These are a great way to start if you want to explore your creative side. They are also a quick and cost effective way to develop unique fragrances for your business.

  • You will then need to decide what kind of fragrance you want to make and who it's for. We can then steer you towards a suitable formula, base or specific ingredients:

- Is it male, female or unisex?

- What type of fragrance familys do you like? Eg. are you a fan of florals, woods, ambers, orientals, fougeres, fresh, citrus etc? Try a few of your favourite fragrances and see if you can identify what particular aspects of them that you like. Is it the the top notes at the beginning, or the heart notes in the middle, or the long lasting base notes? This will give you a good starting point and a definate goal.

- What kind of quanity do you want to make? If it is small quantities you might want to experiment with rarer, more expensive ingredients such as florals. If you need larger a quantity for soap or creams you use everyday you might consider less expensive woods and citrus.

- Is for personal or commercial use?

- What will your fragrance be used for? Is it for candles, soaps, eau de parfum, shampoo etc.

  • Do you want to make a fragrance from individual ingredients, using one of our formulas, or start with a base that you can personalise? If you are a complete beginner you may want to start with the latter as you will be guaranteed a result.

  • Who are you purchasing for? If it is a gift you might want to consider one of our formula kits or a voucher.
